چکیده

We calculate the contribution to the elliptic flow observable v2 from two–particle correlations in minijet production in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. We use a minijet production cross section derived in a model inspired by saturation approach to high energy scattering. Resulting differential elliptic flow v2(pT ) is an increasing function of pT for transverse momenta below the saturation scale Qs. At higher transverse momenta (pT > Qs) differential flow stops growing and becomes approximately constant, reproducing the elliptic flow saturation data reported by STAR. The centrality dependence of the minijet contribution to v2 is also in good agreement with the data. NT@UW–02–005 INT–PUB–02–32 e-mail: [email protected] e-mail: [email protected]

Correlation Functions and Cumulants in Elliptic Flow Analysis

We consider various methods of flow analysis in heavy ion collisions and compare experimental data on corresponding observables to the predictions of our saturation model proposed earlier [1]. We demonstrate that, due to the nature of the standard flow analysis, azimuthal distribution of particles with respect to reaction plane determined from the second order harmonics should always be proport...

Jet and Minijet Contributions to Transverse Momentum Correlations in High Energy Collisions

I have been studying the effects of jet and minijet production on momentum fluctuations in proton-proton and heavy-ion collisions. Specifically, I’ve been studying transverse momentum and multiplicity correlations using the Monte Carlo event generator PYTHIA [1]. There are many different types of correlations that occur in nuclear collisions and I’ve been focusing on two: radial flow and jets. ...

Elliptic flow of deuterons in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

Using a dynamical model based on the NN → dπ,NNN → dN , and NNπ → dπ reactions and measured proton and pion transverse momentum spectra and elliptic flows, we study the production of deuterons and their elliptic flow in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC. The results are compared with those from the coalescence model. The deviation of deuteron elliptic flow from the constituent nucleon number scaling...

Minijet and Transverse Energy Production in the BFKL Regime

Minijet production in hadronic and nuclear collisions through a BFKL pomeron ladder is studied for the energies of the future LHC heavy-ion collisions. We use unintegrated gluon densities compatible with the small-x increase of parton distributions observed at HERA. We show that at LHC energies the BFKL minijet and transverse energy production is at most of the same order of magnitude as that i...
